This year on Sunday 5th September I am taking part in The Prostate Cancer Charity's Tour Ride, this ride is the exact route as the Stage 4 of the Tour of Britain, which will be held for the pro's just over a week later on the 14th. I guess, I will be a Guinea Pig for the pro's!
This race will be a big challenge for me. This event will be a bit tougher for me as i'm unable to run due to a ankle injury from hashing on the moors. Luckily I can still cycle but need to avoid hiting any potholes to avoid pain. So far I have only managed to cover 85-90 miles in a training ride. Once I reach the 90 mile my body will be telling me to pull out and give up but hopefully I will be thinking about the people who sponsored me and that will give me the determination to complete the event. This event is organised in partnership with the Tour of Britain and the Prostate Cancer Charity. Stage Four is the toughest stage of the race series, a really tough day with very little flat as the route is constantly up and down on narrow, twisty roads. There are two 1st Category climbs up to Exmor early on after leaving Minehead, and then theres the renowned climb of Peak Hill out of Sidmouth with only 40km to go. The last section of the route traces the coastline through Dawlish and on to Teignmouth, but even so there are still some lumps to tackle before the seafront finish. Just over a week after my event the worlds top cyclists from 16 top professional international teams will take on the challenge of the 2010 Tour of Britain starting on the 11th September. (You can watch it live on ITV4) Stage 4 Minehead to Teignmouth will be on the 14th and Stage 5 Tavistock to Glastonbury will be on the 15th September. |
